Bangladesh Independence Day

Introduction

Bangladesh Shadhinota Dibosh Celebrated

The Independence Day of Bangladesh (Bengali: Shadhinata DibĂ´sh), also referred as 26 March is a national holiday for Bangladesh. It commemorates the country’s declaration of independence from Pakistan on late hours of 25 March 1971. The day is a memorial to the deaths of thousands of civilians who died in the subsequent Bangladesh Liberation War.

On March 25, TBCA celebrated the 41st Independence Day of Bangladesh in an outdoor ceremony. The event was attended by TBCA members and others, including freedom fighters and survivors of the bloody nine month war that had ensued after the declaration of independence in March 26, 1971. The occasion was marked by reminiscing of the war days, patriotic songs, and a discussion of its significance to the consequent generations. The day was celebrated in Bangladeshi fashion with traditional breakfast, lunch and tea under the sunny open sky.
